Upgrading Automatic Conveyor Lines: Why the 60mm BLDC Geared Motor Beats the Traditional AC Asynchronous Motor
2026/09/26
Automatic conveyors are the backbone of modern packaging, assembly, logistics and food processing lines. For decades, the default drive has been a simple AC asynchronous (induction) geared motor, often paired with an off-the-shelf speed controller. It is cheap and familiar — but as lines demand gentler handling, tighter speed consistency, multi-zone synchronization and lower energy use, that classic setup starts to show its age.
In this article we look at where the traditional AC asynchronous geared motor struggles on conveyor duty, and why the CKun 60mm brushless DC (BLDC) geared motor — 30W/60W, 220VAC, with the EHD200 panel controller — is becoming the drop-in upgrade engineers specify. The advantages below are drawn from a direct side-by-side comparison of the two motor types.
1. Where the traditional AC asynchronous geared motor lets conveyors down
On a real conveyor, the weak points of a conventional AC speed-controlled geared motor are not theoretical:
2. The upgrade: CKun 60mm parallel-shaft BLDC geared motor
The 60mm BLDC geared motor pairs a brushless DC motor body (3000 RPM, Hall-sensor controlled) with a precision parallel-shaft gearbox on a compact 60×60mm square frame. It runs directly from single-phase AC220V through the EHD200 panel controller — no separate DC power supply to design in.
| Frame size | 60 × 60 mm square |
| Supply | Single-phase AC220V (EHD200 built-in power supply) |
| Power | 30W / 60W |
| Motor speed | 3000 RPM; EHD200 stepless control 150–3000 RPM |
| Gear ratio / output | 3:1 – 40:1, output from ~75 RPM down to a few RPM |
| Max. output torque | 3.0 N·m |
| Warranty | 18-month replacement warranty |
3. Eight advantages that matter on a conveyor line
① Drop-in replacement — no redesign needed
Mounting dimensions, gearbox interface, AC220V supply and potentiometer-style control can all match the AC speed motor you are replacing. In most retrofits the new BLDC motor goes into the same space and wires into the same control — you upgrade performance without rebuilding the conveyor frame.
② Compact footprint, higher power density — saves about 40% space
A 60mm frame delivers 30W or 60W, whereas a conventional AC geared motor in the same ~60mm class typically tops out near 10W. The BLDC package is markedly smaller and lighter, which matters on narrow conveyor frames, compact machines and equipment where every millimeter counts.
③ Constant torque at low speed — no weak low-speed zone
This is the single biggest conveyor benefit. Instead of torque collapsing as you slow down, the BLDC motor holds strong, constant torque at low RPM — so a loaded belt starts reliably and runs steadily at the slow line speeds packaging, accumulation and labeling often require. Output torque reaches up to 3.0 N·m.
④ Wide, stepless speed range
The EHD200 gives stepless adjustment across roughly 150–3000 RPM at the motor — a far wider window than the ~300–1400 RPM usable range of a conventional AC speed-controlled motor. One motor platform covers fast transport and gentle, slow accumulation without changing hardware.
⑤ Smooth start & stop, built for frequent cycling
Acceleration and deceleration are controlled and gentle — no abrupt kick. Indexing conveyors that start and stop dozens or hundreds of times an hour run far more comfortably, with less stress on belts, products and gears.
⑥ Built-in electronic brake (mechanical brake optional)
The EHD200 supports electronic braking via the driver, so the belt stops promptly and holds position — ideal for inclines, diverts and indexing. There is no need to add a separate mechanical brake motor, though a mechanical brake can still be fitted when required.
⑦ PLC control, multi-motor synchronization & precise speed
Beyond a simple knob, the system supports terminal start/stop, PLC control and 485 communication. Several motors can be driven in perfect step from one PLC signal — a real advantage on long, multi-zone conveyors that need a consistent line speed. Speed can also be read out and displayed quantitatively, instead of drifting with load.
⑧ Cooler, efficient, maintenance-free and durable
Temperature rise is much lower than an AC motor under the same conditions, so there is little risk of burning the motor during long low-speed runs. Efficiency reaches roughly 80–90% (vs ~50–70% for a conventional AC geared motor), cutting energy use. Because it is brushless, there are no brushes to wear and almost no routine maintenance — backed by an 18-month replacement warranty.

4. Side by side: AC asynchronous geared motor vs. CKun 60mm BLDC geared motor
| Topic | Traditional AC Asynchronous Geared Motor | CKun 60mm BLDC Geared Motor |
| Size / power density | Bulky; ~10W in a 60mm class frame | Compact; 30W/60W in the same 60mm frame, ~40% smaller envelope |
| Speed range | Narrow, ~300–1400 RPM | Wide, stepless 150–3000 RPM |
| Low-speed torque | Drops off severely; weak under load | Constant low-speed torque, up to 3.0 N·m |
| Start / stop behavior | Jerk on start; poor at frequent cycling | Smooth acceleration/deceleration; handles frequent start-stop |
| Low-speed heating | Heats up; can burn the motor | Low temperature rise; safe during long slow runs |
| Braking | Needs an added mechanical brake | Electronic brake built in (mechanical brake optional) |
| Control & sync | Potentiometer only; speed drifts with load | Terminal + PLC + 485; multi-motor sync; quantitative speed readout |
| Efficiency | ~50–70% | ~80–90%, more torque per watt |
| Maintenance / life | Wearing parts; consumables to replace | Brushless, maintenance-free; 18-month replacement warranty |
